MaxMatt-9L is a cost-effective, carboxylated-acrylic chemical matting agent designed for polyester/epoxy hybrid powder coatings.
It provides strong matting performance together with good storage stability, impact resistance, scratch resistance, and it is compatible with subsequent waterborne topcoat application.
Key Features:
- Excellent matting: minimum 3 GU @ 60°
- Mechanism: chemical-matte mechanism; recommended ratio matting agent : epoxy
(EEW ~833 g/eq) = 1 : 3 - Appearance: flat and smooth film with high fullness, deep blackness, and stain resistance
- Storage stability: gel time 3 ′ 00 ″ – 3 ′ 30 ″ ; finished powder shows very good storage stability.
- Impact resistance: ±50Kg.cm, excellent delayed impact performance
- Scratch resistance: higher crosslink density yields greater hardness and scratch
resistance than traditional chemical matting agents. - Cost advantage: higher epoxy usage in the formula offers a notable cost benefit when epoxy prices are low.
- High pigment/filler loading: compared with high-m.p. X68-type agents, MaxMatt-9L’s higher resin content allows more pigment/filler without sacrificing appearance.
- Other: Waterborne topcoat compatibility
- Low cross-contamination when used alongside X68-type matting agents
- Color stability: outstanding color stability.
- Low sensitivity to oven temperature; minimal contamination to high-gloss powders baked in the same tunnel
- Adjustable gloss: tune gloss by adjusting MaxMatt-9L dosage and the corresponding epoxy consumption, with no loss of performance
- Mechanical properties & adhesion: excellent, ≥50 kg·cm (direct/reverse)
- Broadly compatible with polyester resins; particularly well-suited to 60/40
polyester/epoxy matte hybrids - Re-extrusion: supports re-extrusion of off-spec/expired powder
Reference Formulations (parts by weight):

*Impact (±) indicates direct and reverse impact.
- Adjust epoxy dosage in each formulation to optimize mechanical properties.
- Adjust pigment/filler levels as needed; increasing filler generally aids matting—prefer matting-grade fillers, such as Natural BaSO4.
- The above formulation is for reference only. If a waterborne clearcoat will be applied, use a 50/50 polyester/epoxy hybrid.
- Avoid accelerators or catalytic pigments/fillers; they typically raise gloss and may
impair leveling.
Typical Properties:
- Appearance: White or light-yellow powder
- Equivalent Weight (reference): ≈278
Application:
- Pre-mix and Co-extrusion [One-Shot]
Storage:
- Shelf life: at least 12 months、≤27 °C in a dry, moisture-proof environment.
Safety and Caution:
- Follow general safety practices for powder-coating additives.
- Unless otherwise noted, ZEHM products are manufactured without intentionally
added heavy metals and without oxidizing or explosive substances. - Use appropriate PPE to avoid ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact.
